Portfolio company Eccrine Systems has won Frost & Sullivan's 2017 North American Innovation Award for its pioneering sweat-sensing platform, Sweatronics®, for use with non-invasive wearables. According to Frost & Sullivan's announcement, Frost & Sullivan presents this award each year to "the company that has developed a product with innovative features and functionality that is gaining rapid acceptance in the market. The award recognizes the quality of the solution and the customer value enhancements it enables."

“Eccrine Systems’ Sweatronics real-time platform is comprised of proprietary sensors, data processors, and management systems that can detect and manage sweat-sensor data, which represents a momentous shift from traditional methods of detecting physiological changes to painless and more convenient noninvasive methods,” said Arjun Mehta, Industry Analyst.

“Eccrine's success in advancing the Sweatronics® platform has required groundbreaking scientific innovation coupled with incredible business strategy, two elements that are essential to meet the expectations that come with this award from Frost & Sullivan,” said Dr. Jason Heikenfeld, Eccrine Systems Chief Science Officer and Co-Founder.

CincyTech is proud to have supported Eccrine Systems' Southwest Ohio-grown technology and talented team from the earliest days of formation, as a spin-off out of the University of Cincinnati.  Helping to commercialize promising research into companies is part of our core mission, and it is rewarding to see Eccrine Systems recognized on a larger stage.

Eccrine Systems is set to introduce its first product, a wearable armband, in early 2018, which is designed to monitor dehydration status during thermally intensive activities and provide real-time alerts to end users and safety personnel to help avoid the dangerous effects of serious heat stress.

The Sweatronics® platform continuously monitors sweat biomarkers and sends the data to a remote system through a transceiver. The unique sensors and arrays allow a device to effectively analyze sweat rate and other biomarkers in a single, continuous, or repetitive manner. "I know the Frost & Sullivan selection process takes into account a number of criteria," said Robert Beech, Eccrine Systems Executive Chair and Co-Founder.

"To come out on top for 2017 acknowledges the innovative capabilities of our team and underscores the extent our progress to date. We are honored to have been selected and look forward to attending the formal award event in late January."
